Nevermind by Nirvana free essay sample

A simple born-and-raised Seattle band, Nirvana laid out a whole new red carpet for cultural rock bands, and its unique guitar and technical effects set it apart from any other band of the early ?s. Over the course of seven years and three albums, Nirvana proved to be unthinkably and surprisingly brilliant. Their second album, â€Å"Nevermind,† is the most rewarding to listen to. After its release in 1991, â€Å"Smells Like Teen Spirit† began blasting from CD players, boom boxes, and radios all over the world. Nirvanas drummer, Dave Grohl, created a beat that put the songs together. The distorted guitar sounds were â€Å"Seattle sound†-worthy and influential in the development of the grunge movement. Nirvana gave a whole new name to alternative rock. This albums array of punk metal songs are legendary from top to bottom. â€Å"Come As You Are† is a rhythmic tune that is easygoing and was a Top 40 hit. Nirvana was decades ahead of their time. Im sure that â€Å"Nevermind† was never meant to change music history, but indeed it did. â€Å"Nevermind† was certified as a gold album and for years the awards kept rolling in. Kurt Cobains personal problems and tragic suicide naturally mirror the albums dark tone, but no matter how much anger or pain there is on â€Å"Nevermind,† Nirvana is a band that truly changed rock for all who chose to listen. Nevermind by Nirvana free essay sample Nirvana’s hit 1991 album, â€Å"Nevermind† has been influencing music for decades. I still hear their hit song, â€Å"Smells like teen spirit† playing on the radio quite often along with several others from this album. â€Å"Nevermind† is arguably the best of it’s time, a classic. At first glance, the lyrics in the songs can seem like a jumbled mess with no credible correlation to each other. But I thought this was odd because this album was released only seven years before the lead singer, Kurt Cobain committed suicide. Surely, he would have incorporated his emotions into what he had a passion for, his music. The third track, â€Å"Come as you are† may seem extremely odd and irrelevant at first because of the strange lyrics. (ex. â€Å"Take your time, hurry up. The choice is yours, dont be late. Take a rest as a friend, as an old memoria†). There are many theories about what the song is really about. Others argue that he was simply intoxicated by drugs when he wrote that track. Kurt Cobain later described this song as simply â€Å"About people, and what they’re expected to act like.† Either way, it stemmed from a negative experience like most other songs off of â€Å"Nevermind†. I don’t think Nirvana ever intended for this album to be as popular as it did. While playing a MTV Unplugged performance, Kurt Cobain got emotional because the audience appreciated songs off â€Å"Nevermind† more than they did songs off a later album â€Å"In Utero† (1993). â€Å"In Utero† was supposed to be their big hit because of how personal the stories were behind the lyrics. Which is why Cobain got emotional during the performance. He was upset because the songs off of â€Å"In Utero† had more meaning and the audience did not enjoy them as much as track s off of â€Å"Nevermind†. Personally, it is in my top five favorite albums. The songs give me a nostalgic, haunting feeling. It’s supremacy above all the other albums by Nirvana is clear. â€Å"Nevermind† definitely raised the bar for future grunge bands. The 12 track album that shot them into super-stardom will continue to be enjoyed for years to come, just as it is today.
